The world has been watching in horror as people in the U.S. are murdered, children kidnapped and communities torn apart.
And now, as these killings spark outrage across the globe, Canadians have discovered something disturbing: militarized armoured vehicles made by a Canadian company are being sold to ICE. [1]
Roshel, a factory in Brampton, Ontario, was contracted to deliver 20 militarized armoured vehicles to ICE end of December 2025. Ontario Premier Doug Ford remarked that such a deal was "fantastic news.” [2]
But human rights organizations have documented ICE’s role in violent raids and excessive use of force, family separation, denial of medical aid and deaths in custody. [3] This means that sending armoured vehicles to ICE is helping to militarize an agency repeatedly accused of human rights abuses.
Under the Arms Trade Treaty, which Canada signed and is enshrined in law, export permits must not be approved if there is a substantial risk of human rights violations. [4]
People around the world have been confronted with extensive video documentation and first-hand testimony. Canadians know: we cannot speak about human rights abroad while exporting military equipment that enables abuses next door.
Canada also knows—painfully—what it looks like when force is used to protect power, profit and extraction over people, and the land they call home. From Indigenous communities facing violent militarized police raids for upholding their lands and sovereignty, to workers and communities sidelined in the name of “economic necessity”—the gap between what governments promise and what they do costs lives.
Our neighbours south of the border are paying that cost right now. We refuse to be complicit as a Canadian defence manufacturer sends armoured vehicles to terrorize peaceful communities in the U.S.
Tell Prime Minister Mark Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand:
- No more armoured vehicles or military equipment for ICE
- Close the loopholes enabling untracked Canadian weapons, arms parts and explosives
- Vote YES to the No More Loopholes Bill C-233 this February
Carney said it himself: Building Canada Strong means living our values. Let’s start right now.
