This holiday season, Canada’s waste production will rise by more than 25% and reach an astonishing 50 kilograms of trash per person. [1] [2]

Countless seasonal and single-use items will go straight to landfills across the country with the purchase of no less than 6 million tape rolls and 2.6 billion greeting cards. [3] [4] A good chunk of the 545,000 tonnes of wrappings and bags that are thrown out each year are part of the coming celebrations. [1] Delicious leftovers, of which around 30% could have been eaten, won't make it to the dinner table. [5] Thousands of holiday trees will sadly end up on our sidewalks once their brief duty is fulfilled.

Unless we act on it!

Let’s reject our over-consuming, take-make-waste system. Let’s take action instead and model the change we want governments and companies to make. Together let’s create new traditions, and pledge to cut waste this holiday season!
