The deep sea is a treasure trove of biodiversity and home to untold wonders and possibilities. But a threat is coming: deep sea mining.
The good news is we can stop this industry before it even starts. But we don’t have much time.
Deep sea mining companies are pressuring our governments to let them go several kilometers below the surface of the ocean, and tear up the seabed to extract metals. If they’re given the green light, gigantic machines will plunder pristine ocean ecosystems.
And the industry just won a new powerful ally. Since April 24, Trump’s administration opened up the possibility of deep sea mining in the international seabed under a US permit, undermining international law and overriding years of global opposition… Canadian frontrunner, The Metals Company, answered the call.
Canada must react now.
Former Prime Minister Trudeau supported a moratorium on deep sea mining in 2023 [3]. Now we need the new Carney government to reassert Canada's leadership on ocean protection and hold the line against the industry.
We stopped deep sea mining until now and we can stop it for good with your help. Sign the petition.
